Humboldt County is located on California ’s northern coast, 270 miles north of San Francisco and 100 miles south of the Oregon border.
Driving time from the San Francisco Bay Area is four hours through the wine country and mountains of Sonoma and Mendocino counties. Drive time from Portland is seven hours. The main north-south route is U.S. Highway 101.
Along California's Central Valley, Interstate 5 crosses two east-west access routes to the Humboldt County coast, Highway 20 at Williams and Highway 299 at Redding.
Traveling south from Portland, take Highway 199 at Grants Pass, in Oregon, to reach Humboldt County.
The Eureka/Arcata airport (ACV) is served by three air carriers, United Express, Alaska/Horizon and Delta (seasonal), with flights from San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Portland and Salt Lake City. The airport is located in McKinleyville, 15 miles north of Eureka.
